League News - July 2010

Hello Everyone. Just thought I would drop a few lines down to start of my tenure as the Secretary & Treasurer of the League!

As some of you are aware, I have been the treasurer of the Wednesday League (along with Tommy and Keith) for a few years now, so was delighted when I was asked to come along and heklp out with the running of the Thursday league. As ever, there are some shoes to fill and I want to add my own thanks to both Pam Welsby and Mark Willis for their great efforts in keeping the league running as we know it. I hope you will join me in offering the same thanks to them both.

At the AGM, we have made some changes to the league structure and the way we will operate during the new season. We have introduced an extra round of fixtures into the programme, which means each team will play the others in their Division THREE times. The fixtures will be structured on a two-year basis allowing all clubs to benefit from the extra home game (and the revenue) over the course of the two year cycle. I'm very happy with this as it reduced the number of open dates and the need for a long break at Christmas. It will much more competitive snooker and hopefully a higher standard amongst us all. Further to this, we have moved the traditional Knockout cup to the end of the season, and also dropped the plate competition for the forseeable future.

League registration will take place on the 12th August, 7.30pm, at the Greenalls Club. League fees for this season will be £35 per team, and £2 per player in each team.

I will endavour to keep you all updated as best as possible and look forward to us all having a wonderful season of Thursday league snooker. Remember folks, this league would be nothing without all those clubs and players who enjoy their snooker. Good Luck Everyone!

Yours in Snooker

Dave O'Dowd.
